GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Mathematics, Sciences, and Technology (MST) of Paine College located in Augusta, Georgia invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Mathematics. 

Paine College is a private institution steeped in the tenets of Methodism that provides a liberal arts education of the highest quality. The College emphasizes academic excellence, ethical and spiritual values, social responsibility, and personal development to prepare spiritually centered men and women for positions of leadership and service.

Faculty in the Department of MST are expected to teach undergraduate courses which may include evening, weekend and/or hybrid courses; advise students; conduct socially significant research; engage in teaching practices with an acute focus on documenting student learning; serve on faculty committees; attend departmental, faculty and other meetings, attend College convocations, and pursue professional service opportunities at the local, regional, and national levels.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Mathematics, Sciences and Technology is seeking qualified candidates for a position of the rank of Assistant Professor of Mathematics.  This is a tenure-track position. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Full-time teaching (15 semester credits) of undergraduate courses which may include evening, weekend and/or on-line courses. The candidate should have teaching experience at the college level. 

  • Teaches assigned mathematics courses and associated labs; informs students in writing of instructional standards; posts and maintains office hours; participates in the assessment of student learning outcomes. 
  • Develops new courses, curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools; assists with the preparation of course proposals, curriculum updates and the construction of degree/certificate programs.
  • Applies and maintains standards of quality operating methods, processes, systems, and procedures; implements changes as necessary to maintain a successful mathematics major program; integrates knowledge of industry trends and professional training to continuously improve program and course quality.
  • Contributes to the maintenance, troubleshooting, and building of hardware and software necessary for the successful deployment of all mathematics courses.
  • Participates in the recruitment of prospective mathematics students. This includes, but is not limited to, working with partner institutions in the development and maintenance of a sustainable recruiting model.
  • Other responsibilities include serving on college committees, advising students, supervising undergraduate student research projects, and performing other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.  
  • Previous collegiate teaching experience is desired.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

 

RANK AND SALARY

Salary is competitive and commensurate with professional experiences, ten-month position with potential for summer employment. Maximum salary: $45,000.

 

EFFECTIVE DATE OF APPOINTMENT

Ten-month appointment to begin October 1, 2022.

 

Expected Start Date
